10 commandments
Posted in Uncategorized on October 16th, 2006 by His HolinessIn your assigned reading for this week from Martin Luther’s sermon “How Christians Should Regard Moses†you read that Martin Luther believes that the 10 commandments do not apply to Christians, and that Christians are not bound by the 10 commandments. Yet Luther also included the 10 commandments in the small Catechism, and suggests in this sermon that Christians should keep the commandments.
The first part of your assignment for this week is to explain Martin Luther’s reasoning. Why does Luther think that the commandments are important if he also thinks that the commandments do not apply to Christians?
The second part of the assignment has to do with the contemporary fight in America over the placement of copies of the 10 commandments in public places. Many people who identify themselves as Christians, feel that the 10 commandments should be placed in a variety of public places like court rooms, libraries, and public parks for example. If, as Martin Luther suggests, Christians are not bound by the commandments, why then would Christians advocate for the public display of the commandments, particularly in places where non-Christians would encounter them?

First i think all of the commandments apply to every body maybe he thought christans were to good for the commandments but i think they arent because all people are the same. i think that the commandments should be in some public places as a reminder to all people of what they should or should not do. if some people argue that they don’t belive in god and don’t want the 10 commandments in public places then only put them in certain places, like religious places.

The comandments are good because they are basic and comon rules or laws that everyone should try to fallow.Martin Luther might of thought that they didn’t apply to christians because you are already saved and there is no unforgiveable sin.So you could do anything and still be saved.Even if its wrong. If it is wrong you still shouldn’t do it.
I think they should be in court rooms and libraries because they were the first set of documented rules or laws. In the court room they are sort of like the laws today but the rules today are much more in depth because anything that you try to think of there is probably a law about that.In the libraries they could be looked up to find what the first laws were and to just aknolage them or to do a report on them.Over all I think that everyone should know a little about the Ten Comadments.

The ten commandments are the rules that we should try our hardest to follow. They commandments maybe didn’t apply to the Christians because whatever they do they are forgiven. All the sinning and disobeying that we do are forgiven. Martin Luther knew that the commandments were indeed very important. Plus, when Jesus died on the cross he took away all of our sins. Maybe that’s why the ten commandments don’t apply to Christians. Although now the ten commandments apply to Christians. Everybody has to follow them to the best of their abilities.
I think that the ten commandments should be in some places. Possible in the court rooms like Michael said or any other places that seem important. I don’t think that we should put them in state parks because nobody will even read them. They might if they are Christians but I highly doubt that anyone else will. Plus, if Martin Luther thinks that the ten commandments don’t apply to Christians then what is the reason why we have to put them up anyways. I would say that I am half and half. I think we should put them in important places because the commandments are very important and I don’t think we should post them because according to Martin Luther the ten commandments don’t apply to Christians.

I think that the 10 commandments are pretty good because thats mean you have to follow them, and you should just follow them no matter what. Luther doesnt think that the 10 commandments doesnt apply to Christians because we already belive in god. I think everyone should follow the commandments no matter what you do or anything. I think that the 10 commandments should be in the court room, and everything else so everyone can follow them or look at them or even read the 10 commandments.
