Self Reflection

The word Disciple means “Follower”

One of the 101 questions is: What does it mean, FOR YOU, to be a disciple of Jesus Christ? More simplistically the question is: “what do you do to follow Christ?”

Your task for this week is to answer that question, AND to evaluate your own answer to the question. Do you think you are doing what Christ would have you do? Are you following Christ, or something else? If you do not have a particularly moving answer, then you should use this opportunity to brainstorm some ways in which you can follow Christ that might be more satisfying to you.

Keeping in mind that one of the requirements for confirmation, is active participation in the life of the congregation; you might consider ways this assignment, and your confirmation requirement overlap.

To review: Your assignment for this week is to answer the following questions:

What does it mean, FOR YOU, to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?

Do you think you are doing what Christ would have you do?

IF your answer is not YES – then:

Brainstorm some ways in which you can follow Christ that might be more satisfying to you.

And find a way to apply THIS brainstorming to your confirmation requirements.

I haven’t done a ton of things for this congregation, but I try my hardest. Yes, I do some things like teaching a class, or I help with some activities that the church is active in. I think that I could be more active and do things such as maybe helping out with lectoring or ushering. Maybe sometime I would even want to teach and help preach during church. These are a few things that I have done and a few things that can be done so that I am considered a disciple of God. And as a disciple I decided that I will try my best to do everything that I put on this list.

I dont know if i done a lot or not i dont think i have. I think i have done some good things in life. I help the sunday school kids and i teach them one time. I Have went caroling but i honestly dont think that is enough. During my life i will keep doing things that i think is right for the christ and chruch. I will grow up and be a part of the congreation and do things that i want to do and teach my kids the good things i have done right and they should follow some foot steps of mine own.

I know I don’t do anything for the church that I know of that is important. I know I’m nice, and a good kid but I think I need to do more for the church to be concidered a diciple of Christ. I could help out with the church service more than I do. That would mean doing more than the normal acolyte would do and more than a normal usher would do. But I don’t believe any of the kids in are church are deciples yet because going to sunday school and helping others such as adults or even other children is not enough. Christ wants us to do more. Like come to church every sunday, tell others about him, help others, go to sunday school, get involved in all church activities, try to get others involved in activities. The list could go on and on but the truth is people could always do more but they don’t. And just settling for something is not enough. Like Luther said about the commanments that they did not apply to Christians. But then he also said that even though they are not bound by the commandments that they would rise above and beyond the expectations of the commandments. And that is how I think it should be to be a disciple of Christ you should rise above and beyond the expectations and do more than you normally do. Give more than 100%. That is why I don’t concider myself a disciple because I don’t give more than 100%.
