Message to the youth of the world

Posted in Uncategorized on April 2nd, 2007 by His Holiness

Today, Palm Sunday, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI issued a message to the youth of the world.

His message can be found in English at: http://www.vatican.va/liturgical_year/lent/index-lent2007-hf_en.htm among other locations.

Your task is to read the message that Benedict XVI has issued you, and to critique it. You may offer any viewpoint you choose, however your critique should indicate that you have read the statement (all of it) and that you have thought about it.

Some questions you might consider in helping you to critique the message are:

  • What parts of this message do I agree with?
  • What parts of this message do I disagree with?
  • What parts of the message seem to apply to me and my life?
  • What parts of this message seem to not apply to me and my life?
  • How would, or should, protestants consider this message?
  • How would non-Christians consider this message?
  • What parts of this message do I not understand?

You can, and should, of course consider other questions in your reflection, but these might provide you with a starting place.

Again, to reiterate, your task this week is to read the message that Benedict XVI has issued you, and to critique it.

This was a very strong and powerful message. I like how it tells us where any kind of love is from. Everything comes from god. The only thing that I disliked about this message, was that it got a tiny bit boring after about the first few paragraphs. The main part that applies to me is that there is an everlasting exchangeof love between the persons of the Father and the Son, and this love is not an energy or a sentiment, but it is the Holy Spirit. The other part that applies to me is that Jesus died on the cross for me and everyone just to take away our sins. In this message there was not one thing that didn’t apply to me. I think that non-christians should think of this message almost as a heartfelt blessing. Same with protestants, they should love everyone. Every single person that reads this message or hears this will most likely get the same message as I did.

“Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” (Jn 13:34)

I think that this message applies to everyone because no one but Christ is able to love everyone and to agree with them. I also think that everthing comes from God and with out him the world would be only hatered. But think all people should see this the same every one should try to love everyone I know that this is impossible because there will always be someone somebody doesn’t like. “One commandment says that you should love your neibors” this does not mean to just love the people who live close to you, because your neibors are everyone in the world so it is really saying to love everyone. I think that the most important part in this message is that Jesus Christ died for everyone to take away their sins. He died for people he never even met. Most people would say they wouldn’t die for someone they didn’t know. That is what I thought was important and also thougt that this passage told what true love was and what it ment.

Wow! This message is really strong to me. I think that the message he showed us or let us read it should applie to everyone becuase there is something in there that everyone has done in their life time. The passage aslo showed us what true love is and what it means to love someone or have someone love you!!!!!!!!I think the most importment part in the passage is that what love meant, and what true love is . I dont think everyone will ever not love someone.
